Grenfell Wedding | Central West NSW Wedding Photographer
Sophie and George’s Grenfell wedding was a relaxed country celebration held on their family’s private property in Central West NSW. Surrounded by farmland and brilliant yellow canola fields, it was the kind of wedding where the location was genuinely part of the day rather than simply a backdrop.
They started the morning getting ready separately at different properties around Grenfell before everyone made their way to the family farm for the ceremony and reception.
For couples planning a wedding around Grenfell, Young, Cowra or elsewhere in Central West NSW, a private property can be an incredible option. Farms and rural properties around this part of NSW often have plenty of open space for the ceremony and reception, as well as paddocks, country roads, sheds, fields and surrounding farmland for photos. Keeping everything on the one property also means less travel during the day, giving couples more time with their guests and allowing the photography to happen naturally around the landscape.
A Private Property Wedding in Grenfell
The ceremony was held outdoors on the family farm, surrounded by the open countryside that makes this part of Central West NSW such an incredible place for a wedding.
One of the biggest advantages of a private property wedding in the Central West NSW is the freedom it gives couples to create a day that feels completely their own. There are no other weddings happening nearby, no guests from another event wandering through and no need to work around the usual layout of a commercial wedding venue.
For Sophie and George, their family property also gave the wedding a much more personal connection. It wasn’t simply somewhere they had hired for the day — it was a place that was already part of their lives.
Wedding Photos Around the Farm
After the ceremony we stayed on the property for the majority of Sophie and George’s wedding photos.
Country properties are brilliant for wedding photography because there is usually far more variety than you initially realise. We photographed around the farm using the paddocks, tracks and surrounding landscape, keeping everything relaxed rather than turning the afternoon into a long formal photo shoot.
We could simply move around the property as the light changed and stop whenever we found something interesting.
And then there were the canola fields.
Wedding Photos in the Yellow Canola Fields
The vibrant yellow canola surrounding the property was easily one of the most distinctive features of Sophie and George’s Grenfell wedding.
At the right time of year, canola fields completely transform the Central West NSW landscape. The intense yellow against the open sky created an incredible backdrop and gave their photographs a look that could only really have come from a country wedding in this part of NSW.
Rather than travelling somewhere specifically for wedding portraits, we were able to head straight into the fields surrounding the farm and make the most of what was already there.
These ended up being some of my favourite photographs from the day.
A Country Wedding Reception on the Family Property
After the photos, everyone returned to the main wedding area for the reception and an evening celebrating with family and friends.
Keeping the ceremony, photography and reception on the same private property made the whole day flow naturally. Once guests arrived for the ceremony, nobody needed to travel again and Sophie and George could simply enjoy the afternoon and evening on the farm.
It is one of the reasons private property weddings work so well, particularly throughout regional NSW where families often have access to beautiful farms and rural properties that can become genuinely unique wedding venues.
Central West NSW Wedding Photography
Grenfell is an amazing location for couples wanting a relaxed country wedding in Central West NSW, particularly if you have access to a family farm or private property.
The region offers a completely different feel from the vineyards of the Hunter Valley or coastal wedding venues closer to Sydney and Newcastle. Around Grenfell, Young, Cowra and the surrounding countryside, it is all about huge landscapes, farms, country roads and changing agricultural scenery throughout the year.
If you’re planning a Grenfell wedding or looking for a Central West NSW wedding photographer, I photograph weddings throughout Grenfell and regional NSW, with a relaxed documentary approach that allows you to spend more of the day enjoying your wedding rather than disappearing for hours of photographs.
