Clare & Aaron's Krinklewood Estate Wedding Hunter Valley

Clare and Aaron’s Krinklewood Estate Wedding in the Hunter Valley had a little bit of everything, including one of the coolest changes in weather I’ve had during wedding photos for a while.

They both got ready onsite at Krinklewood before heading down to the Tiered Lawn for their ceremony. We spent the afternoon exploring this Hunter Valley wedding property for photos, and just as dusk arrived, the lighting completely changed. It went from dark dramatic clouds, so a beautiful rainbow and then a lightning storm started rolling across the Hunter Valley. Instead of calling it a day, we headed back out and managed to get some pretty epic photos with lightning flashing in the background. before it started raining. As a Hunter Valley wedding photographer, I find some of the most dramatic wedding images come when the weather is unpredictable.

Getting Ready at Krinklewood Estate

Having both Clare and Aaron getting ready onsite made the start of the day really easy. Krinklewood has accommodation at the estate, including the main Residence, which overlooks the surrounding vineyards and gardens.

It meant there was no travelling between locations and I could move between everyone throughout the morning while everything was happening.

Krinklewood itself has a very distinctive feel. There are vineyards and plenty of greenery, but also beautiful Provençal-style gardens, sandstone, fountains and French-inspired details throughout the property.

Ceremony on the Tiered Lawn

Clare and Aaron held their ceremony on the Tiered Lawn, one of several ceremony locations available at Krinklewood Estate.

It’s a great spot for a ceremony because you have the gardens and surrounding Hunter Valley landscape as the backdrop, while everything still feels quite private.

After the ceremony there was plenty of time for Clare and Aaron to catch up with everyone, have a drink and enjoy the afternoon before we disappeared for some photos.

Wedding Photos Around Krinklewood Estate

One of my favourite things about photographing a Krinklewood Estate Wedding is just how much variety there is without having to leave the property.

We wandered through different parts of the estate using the vineyards, gardens, lawns and architecture for photos. It meant we could keep things relaxed, move around when the light looked good and not spend ages away from the wedding.

Then the weather decided to give us something completely different.

Lightning at Dusk

As dusk arrived, a storm started rolling across the Hunter Valley and we could see lightning flashing in the distance.

Obviously, you can’t plan something like this on a wedding day. We saw the opportunity, headed out for a few more photos and managed to capture Clare and Aaron with the lightning going off behind them.

Definitely one of my favourite parts of the day and a pretty incredible way to finish their portraits.

Sometimes the unexpected stuff gives you the best photos.

Marquee Reception at Krinklewood

The reception was held in a marquee at the front of the property, where everyone could settle in for dinner, speeches and the rest of the night.

Krinklewood allows couples to create quite a different reception setup depending on the wedding, with a number of areas across the estate available for celebrations and space for marquee options.

After the stormy skies outside, it was back into the marquee for a really fun night with Clare, Aaron and all their family and friends.

Krinklewood is a beautiful Hunter Valley venue to photograph, and Clare and Aaron’s wedding certainly gave us something a little different. A relaxed day, a great couple, plenty of beautiful locations around the property and a lightning storm thrown in for good measure.
