Your wedding captured authentically with a bit of epicness

Adam Cavanagh
Hey I’m Adam…

A Southern Highlands wedding photographer offering fun, natural & awesome wedding photography in NSW & around Australia.

Thanks for stopping by to check out our little corner of the world, and for considering me as your wedding photographer. I am so honoured to do what I do and sometimes feel I have the greatest job in the work. Each weekend I get to travel to some of the Southern Highlands best and most beautiful locations and capture these amazing wedding days for couples. And I know how important and special these moments are.

Wedding photography really allows me to push myself artistically and creatively to capture unique photos for each individual couple. And I love meeting like-minded couples, find out about their story and photographing them and their amazing wedding day.

I’m all about capturing couples in a relaxed, unobtrusive way with a bit of awesome!!

If you love natural, candid moments and hate anything cheesy, then check out more of our work.

Relaxed, candid and creative wedding photography by award-winning Southern Highlands wedding photographer Adam Cavanagh. With the help of my lovely wife Kim, who runs the day-to-day business and looks after all the client communication and is the main contact person in the lead up to the wedding, we are Cavanagh Photography.

We are currently based north of Sydney on the coast after having previously lived in Sydney. I shoot weddings around Australia and the Southern Highlands is undoubtedly one of my favourite wedding destinations. My aim to capture the day as naturally and candidly as possible with a documentary-style approach. Because I want the day to be genuine and honest, without manufacturing or creating moments. By shooting candidly without posing I really find couples are more themselves yourself and I am able to capture those real and genuine moments.

Wedding days should be fun and relaxed and that is how I try to be on the day. If a wedding couple is relaxed and having an awesome time at their wedding, then that is when you get real, genuine expressions and emotions. When we take photos out on location I shoot in the same non-posey way. Lots of joking around, exploring the area. Just you guys walking and having fun together as you stroll around the beautiful rolling green hills of the Southern Highlands.

This is us…

Kim organises everything and runs this little family business. From client correspondence, admin and even school drop-offs. She is a wedding planner star!

Adam takes pretty photos and edit photos but sometimes breaks into song and dance with his two little girls… awww :)

I absolutely love country, vineyard and barn type weddings. Anything out in nature is what I love to photograph. That is why I love Southern Highlands weddings. I would rather drive across the country to photograph a small farm wedding than shoot in the middle of a big major capital city in Australia, even if they paid me double the money.

Wedding photography is such a personal event and you want someone passionate about your style of wedding. As a wedding photographer, the Southern Highlands is one of my absolute favourite wedding destinations in NSW to photograph weddings.

It is one of the most popular wedding photography destinations in New South Wales, and rightly so. Southern Highlands wedding photographers have a huge selection of beautiful locations to choose from to create timeless and beautiful images for a couple’s wedding day, with elegant estates, state forests, vineyards, and historic buildings.

Here are some of our wedding photography highlights from the last two year. Check it out here…

The Southern Highlands has everything you need for a simply amazing wedding! The scenery and surrounding landscapes are stunning and one of the major reasons why I love being a Southern Highlands wedding photographer.

Beautiful little towns is also what the Southern Highlands in known for. And each of these towns has beautiful places to have a wedding and to get beautiful wedding photos. From Sutton Forest, Berrima, Bundanoon to historic Exeter, Mittagong. Or the totally scenic Fitzroy Falls, Penrose, Moss Vale and Roberson.

It is all just perfect for Southern Highlands wedding photography. One of the things I like best about this region of New South Wales is that every town and historic house and venue is so elegant and rustic, but still very contemporary and modern. The green gardens, creeping ivy on walls, manicured hedges all give the Southern Highlands an almost fairy-tale feel to it, that most other regions in NSW don’t have.

If you are still not totally sure about having the Southern Highlands as your wedding destination, then have a look through some of the real weddings that I have photographed over the past few years in this beautiful region.

Wedding Photography Southern Highlands

We are based in New South Wales, just north of Sydney but I photograph wedding all over Australia. But I love working as a Southern Highlands wedding photographer because I really love the landscape, scenery and the climate.

I love country weddings with a relaxed fun couple. So I would much rather drive far far into the country to do a small intimate farm wedding, than travel into the city for a big modern extravaganza. This makes the Southern Highlands my ideal wedding location.

Logistically speaking, for Southern Highlands weddings , I will generally arrive the day before the actual wedding day. This way I am close to the wedding venue and you. That way there is no chance of getting stuck in traffic, being late or being unfamiliar with your wedding venue.

Arriving the day before the wedding also means that if I have never been to your venue before I can check it out. I can scout locations and just get a good general idea of where everything is happening on the wedding day.

Southern Highlands Wedding Venues

From a Southern Highlands wedding photographers point of view, the properties around the region are second-to-none. They are the style and type of wedding venues that I love. I love wedding venues that have character and that are totally unique. I have a true dislike for venues that are “wedding factories” and generic function rooms. Give me a barn, a farm shed a heritage-listed house or just have a wedding under a million stars and fairy lights. That is my ideal wedding venue.

Here are some of my favourite wedding venues around the Southern Highlands, in no particular order:

  • Somerley House is one of my all-time favourite places to shoot. Beautiful historic home, with elegant gardens and some epic landscapes, it doesn’t get much better than this place.
  • Montrose Berry Farm is such a beautiful, charming venue with a rustic barn for your reception. You have to go there just to have their famous berry pies.
  • Peppers Manor House is a rustic country retreat with lots of land and a lot of different landscapes on property.
  • Bendooley Estate is probably one of the most popular places in the Southern Highlands. And for good reason. They have even recently opened up another larger room, dedicated to weddings called ‘The Stables’.
  • Growwild Wildflower Farm is a beautiful marquee wedding venue with lots of beautiful Australian wildflowers. The owner’s son is another awesome wedding photographer. So if you don’t choose him, then pick me, pick me ;)
  • Centennial Vineyards has some of the most epic vines and landscape for photos. Plus it is a pretty huge property, so there are lots of locations for photos. Big beautiful reception room and great location for the ceremony looking onto the vines.
  • Briars Country Lodge and Historic Inn is located in fifteen acres and all the rooms look onto the gardens, lake and gazebo. Lovely venue for a wedding.
  • Peppers Craigieburn is another country resort with a huge golf course onsite. Beautiful garden ceremony locations and lots of locations for photos. One of my favourites.
  • Milton Park has to be one of the most luxurious, elegant stylish properties around. If you are looking for luxurious elegance mixed with a natural country beauty, then this might be the place for you.
  • Mali Brae Farm with ninety acres of beautiful rolling hills on a former dairy farm. You are guaranteed lovely photos here.
  • Wombat Hollow is twenty acres, set in a tranquil bush setting.
  • Sylvan Glen Country Estate is located on sixty acres of private land and you get the property for the whole weekend.
  • Weddings in the Wilde is perfect for your bohemian or glamping themed wedding. Located in the Australian bush, there is a bush chapel and beautiful photo locations.
  • The Robertson Hotel is a historic hotel located ‘majestically’ on top of a hill overlooking the town of Robertson. It is set in a beautiful location which is lovely for photos.
  • Hopewood House is a big grand estate where Emma & Lachy from the Wiggle got married! So yes, that makes it a celebrity wedding venue.

Kind Words

Finding the right photographer to capture the memories on your wedding day is important. With so many choices it’s hard to find the right one for you. However, from our first contact with Kim and Adam we knew we had made the right choice.
Kim was fantastic in communicating with us and providing us with extra information to ensure the running of our day went smoothly. We were beyond impressed with how organised, efficient and knowledgable she is.

When we met Adam on the big day, not only were we thrilled with him but our guests were also. The amount of people who complimented Adam as a photographer and as a gentleman was unbelievable. He was polite, funny and able to put ourselves and our guests at ease. Nothing was too much trouble for him.

We couldn’t be happier with our wedding photos. They are phenomenal.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Kim and Adam who made our wedding planning process an easy one and for capturing the precious memories we can forever look back on.

All I can say about Adam is Wow!! As soon as we looked at Adams website we knew he would be the photographer we would LOVE to have capture our special day. And we were so lucky we chose Adam. Kim Adams wife, was absolutely amazing and informative which made the decision so much more easier.

Kim was in contact with us leading up to our special day and it put our minds at ease knowing we were in great hands. Due to us living in Sydney, we chose to Skype Adam! Our conversation with Adam flowed and we were so comfortable, we felt like we had known him for years! We discussed the venue and our runsheet and Adam answered and addressed any questions or concerns we had.

When the day arrived, both of us were SO happy when Adam arrived. He was calm, cool and candid! We didn’t even realise he was there!

We had an absolute ball during our location shoot! It was so romantic and Adam captured the most special and important parts of our day without us having to feel the need to pose.

Every guest we had commented on how great and fun Adam was and how they couldn’t wait to see the photos! Once the photos arrived we were in awe! They are so beautiful and our friends and family love them.

Adam we cannot thank you enough for completing our special day. I wish we could do it all again just so we could have you as our photographer one more time!!!

Adam and Kim are awesome to work with.

From our very first conversation we were so happy with their service, their personal approach and their understanding of what we were hoping for.

On the day, Adam was just like another member of the family – his style is really natural and unobtrusive, and the moments he captured were incredible.

I have worked with a huge number of professional photographers and studios, and Adam and Kim are by far one of the most impressive and professional organisations.

We’re so grateful for their work, and highly recommend!

Best time to get married in the Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands is definitely one of the best and most popular places to get married in NSW. And the landscape and climate are so good for wedding photography. I would go so far as to say that it probably has the best climate weddings in New South Wales.

Unlike most regions of Australia, the Southern Highlands is pretty good all year round. Here is a breakdown of what the seasons are like.

Summer – The average temperature is 13°C to 25°C. So it is warm but it is not really hot like some other areas of NSW. You will get the occasional 30+ day but as far as temperatures go in Australia, it is pretty mild and a great time to have your wedding.

Autumn – The average temperature is 8°C to 19°C. The temperature is just lovely. Not too hot and not too cold. This is the peak season for weddings. The trees all around the Southern Highlands will start to change colour making it even more magical. The top wedding venues will book out quickly, so book early. Autumn is probably my favourite time of year in the Southern Highlands because of the light and the colour of the trees.

Winter – The average temperature is 3°C to 12°C. So it is starting to get cold now. The sun sets earlier and it gets much colder at night. But Winter is probably my favourite time in the Southern Highlands. Mist, frost and the best light of the year mixed with a roaring fire in an old barn equals stunning wedding photo. This is considered the off season for weddings, so you may even be able to get some good deals and winter specials from wedding venues.

Spring – The average temperature is 8°C to 19°C and it is the season with the lowest rainfall in the Southern Highlands. Spring is definitely peak season for weddings, in the Southern Highlands and all over Australia.

Thank you so much for considering us.
